The history of the forest house

The Wolkenschloss

The house across the way is one of Kalchreuth’s oldest buildings. Locals call it the “Wolkenschloss” (cloud castle) — after the Wölkern family of Nuremberg, who acquired the property in 1764. The current sandstone house was built in 1759, and for the past several decades it served as a forester’s house.

The Meisel family acquired the old building, carefully restored it, and converted it into a hotel. Today, our guests sleep behind walls with stories to tell.
